The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will present the webinar, Don’t Fall for the Dirty Dozen Tax Scams Scam Avoidance and Recovery at 2:00 PM EDT on June 25, 2025. This 75-minute online seminar will cover:
- A review of the IRS Dirty Dozen Tax Scams
- An explanation of what taxpayers should do if they fall victim to a tax scam.
- An in-depth look at the Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) program as well as a discussion pointing out why taxpayers should enroll in that program.
An IP PIN is a six-digit number that prevents anyone else from filing a tax return using a Social Security number (SSN) or individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN). The IP PIN is known only to the owner and the IRS. It helps the IRS verify an identity when filing an electronic or paper tax return. Even though a taxpayer may not have a filing requirement that year, an IP PIN still protects the account. The IRS provides a new IP PIN each tax year as an added layer of security.
